What percentage of LAFB housing is occupied?

"Ask the JBLE Commander" is a forum for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns about Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis directly to Col. John J. Allen, Jr., the 633rd Air Base Wing commander.

Question: What percentage of LAFB housing is occupied? Many appear to be vacant. Are any rented by retirees or Civil Service?

Col. John J. Allen, Jr.

  Response:

The JBLE-Langley privatized housing is intended for military members assigned to JBLE including other services and unaccompanied military. 96% of base housing is currently occupied, while a majority of the unoccupied units are under construction receiving upgrades. Due to the high occupancy rate there is a waiting list for our active-duty military members interested in living in base housing. For this reason, although not prohibited, federal civil service and retired military are not being accepted at this time.
