Will food and drink be allowed in the class rooms at Fort Eustis?

"Ask the JBLE Commander" is a forum for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns about Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis directly to Col. John J. Allen, Jr., the 633rd Air Base Wing commander.

Question: Good afternoon. I attend college class at Ft. Eustis in the evenings and would like to have the opportunity to be able to have a bottle of water or another drink in the class room. Current policy is no food and drink past the front desk. When asked who's policy this is, the response received is it is a Army policy and not St. Leo. All other campuses including Langley allows drinks and food in the class room. We are all adults and should be able to have something to quench our thirst in class. Some of the classes run for multiple hours and depending on the instructor breaks are few. Any consideration in adjusting this policy is greatly appreciated or I will attend school at another location. Right now I am sitting in class with no A/C and temps are at 90 degrees outside. Thank you

  Response:

When the Education Office at Ft. Eustis opened, water bottles and food were authorized in the classrooms. Unfortunately, students were not abiding by the requests of keeping the area clean and throwing away their trash, so the privilege of food and drinks in the classrooms was revoked. With that said, there is a break area where beverages and snacks can be purchased and consumed. The students are allowed to leave the classroom at any time to utilize the break area, go to the restroom, or answer phone calls, and I encourage you to do so, especially if you're feeling exhausted or dehydrated.
