JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
The 733rd Mission Support Group hosted a change of responsibility ceremony at Fort Eustis, Sept. 12.
During the ceremony, U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Jesse Sharpe, outgoing 733rd MSG command sergeant and Army Support Activity CSM major, relinquished responsibility to Sgt. Maj. James Jackson.
"A change of responsibility is just like a change of command," said Col. William Galbraith, 733rd MSG commander. "[It is] symbolic in representation in passing of leadership from one leader to another."
During the ceremony, the sergeants major exchanged a sword, representing the passing of responsibility and authority from an outgoing to an incoming command sergeant major. According to Army tradition, the sword is a fully functional weapon, intended for hard and dedicated use and although it is no longer part of the Army's inventory, it serves as a constant display of leadership, integrity and responsibility.
Galbraith thanked Sharpe for his leadership, dedication, hard work, commitment and professionalism. The colonel then welcomed Jackson and his family, telling him that he looks forward to building their bond as a command team.
"It is truly a blessing to serve as the 733rd MSG command sergeant major," said Jackson. "My family and I thank you for the warm welcome. We are excited and looking forward to all of the wonderful events the installation has to offer."
Jackson came to Fort Eustis from the 45th Sustainment Brigade as their command sergeant major at Schofield Barracks, HI.
