Fort Eustis ceremony recognizes civilian, military volunteers

Fort Eustis honored its' dedicated volunteers during a ceremony hosted at the Fort Eustis Club Nov. 18.

The quarterly ceremony allows organizations across the installation to recognize a volunteer they feel has made a significant impact on the organization during that quarter.

Volunteers recognized at this quarter's ceremony were:

Child, Youth and School Services
Melvin Savoy volunteers as a soccer coach for Child, Youth and School Services.  Savoy not only teaches skills for playing soccer; he also teaches life skills they will be able to use throughout their entire lives.

Spouses' Club of Fort Eustis
Pat Thorton has volunteered as the Consignment Shop Liaison in the Spouses' Club of Fort Eustis Consignment Shop for more than 5 years.  She is the link between the Spouses' club and the Consignment Shop which is the primary source of funding for scholarships and welfare grants for the Fort Eustis military community. 

10th Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary)
Alicia Harrell volunteers as the Family Readiness Group Leader for the 359th Transportation Company where she organized and coordinated activities to support the battalion's Back to School event, servicing over 100 children.  She attended a Brigade Empowerment Workshop where FRG Leaders were able to share ideas and lessons learned and she assisted with the planning and set up of the Battalion Fall Fest.  

Army Community Service
Mary Ward is an Army Family Team Building Volunteer Instructor and ACS Master Trainer.  Ward teaches U.S. Army Soldiers, spouses and civilians Army Family Team Building classes as well as instructor and facilitator courses.

Regimental Memorial Chapel
Juana Hennessey is the lead teacher for the Awana Puggles class, where she teaches preschool children on a weekly basis. Hennessey is the coordinator for the Children's Liturgy of the Word program and the lead for the 3rd and 4th grade Catholic religious education class.

McDonald Army Health Center/American Red Cross
Tim Holgado volunteers as a radiologic technician at MCAHC. He assists with patient care and acquires diagnostic images with minimum repeat rate, eliminating patient's unnecessary exposure to radiation.

McDonald Army Health Center/American Red Cross Summer Youth Program
Makayla Bobbs volunteered over 200 hours in the Orthopedic and Podiatry clinics where she was responsible for screening and bringing patients back to the room, assisting patients in filling out intake forms and handing out patient education flyers.  She has learned how to scrub in for surgery, watched patients prepare for surgery and observed surgeries in the operating room.
