JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. - –
Beginning Feb. 17, the Fit to Win office began their first three-month fitness challenge at Fort Eustis, Virginia.
The event is designed to motivate Service members, civilian employees and their family members to maintain fitness goals throughout the year and push for personal goals.
"Historically, the so-called 'New Year's Resolutions' regarding physical fitness begin to fizzle out," said Bob Ornelaz, Fit to Win coordinator. "The Fit to Win office wanted to offer this contest as a means of re-energizing those to continue their physical fitness improvement efforts."
The challenge began with a baseline physical fitness test of each of the more than 20 participants. All participants will have three months to improve their personal physical fitness. After the training period, participants will be re-tested, and the top three will receive prizes.
The Fit to Win program utilizes state-of-the-art fitness-testing technology in the form of the MICROFIT automated fitness assessment system. The system accurately generates a report of the individual's blood pressure, heart rate, weight, body composition, aerobic, strength and flexibility. The Fit to Win office saw an opportunity to use this technology to further promote physical fitness in the form of friendly and spirited competition.
"Based on scientifically proven fitness industry standards, there is a great value in people knowing and being able to improve their physical fitness level and we are here to help," said Ornelaz.
Registration for the challenge ends Feb. 27. To register, contact the Fit to Win office at 878-2238.
