Eustis Soldiers receive GAFPB

By Senior Airman Kimberly Nagle 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band partnered with the TRADOC German Liaison Office to host the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge competition and award ceremony at Fort Eustis, Virginia, March 3, 2015.
During the ceremony, 20 Soldiers assigned to Fort Eustis received the award.

The GAFPB is a decoration worn by German soldiers of all ranks in the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. The GAFPB is one of several hundred foreign awards approved for wear on the Army Service Uniform. The Soldiers had to compete in athletic and military skills, including swimming, track and field and marksmanship challenges.

"The TRADOC Band is proud to partner with the TRADOC German Liaison Office and plans to continue to do so in the future," said Maj. Leonel Pena, TRADOC Band commander. "Partnering with the German Liaison Office is a demanding, yet welcomed distraction from our day-to-day operations."

German Army Col. Johannes Nebe, Headquarters TRADOC senior German Army liaison officer and German Army Sgt. Maj. Thomas Haugrund, TRADOC German Army liaison staff administration noncommissioned officer in charge, presented the Soldiers with their new badges.

"Today I am proud to present 20 awards," said Nebe. "It is a long-lasting tradition that U.S. Soldiers invest efforts to earning the GAFPB."
