By Senior Airman Breonna Veal 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Members from the 633rd Medical Group participated in the Medical Wilderness Adventure Race, in Newport News, Va., March 28.

U.S. Air Force Capt. Christianne Clifford, 633rd MDG emergency room doctor, Capts. Nicholas Nelson and Sonya Muzyka, 633rd MDG ER nurses, endured 30 degree weather for almost seven hours to conquer the MedWAR.

The MedWAR is an adventure race designed to test medical students, residents, and health care professionals on their wilderness survival and medical skills.

"The Mid-Atlantic race in Virginia consisted of three events, to include, trail running, mountain biking and canoeing," said Clifford. "Each event has a series of checkpoints which contained a wilderness medicine case that tested our medical knowledge."

Teams who answered the cases wrong received time deductions, however, Clifford's team completed the eight-hour race in six hours and 15 minutes, receiving third place overall.
