First shirts host seminar

By Senior Airman Breonna Veal 633rd Air base Wing Public Affairs

Langley Air Force Base's First Sergeant team held a week-long seminar dedicated to teaching technical sergeants and above about the roles of being a first sergeant at Langley Air Force Base, Va., May 8, 2015.

"For those aspiring to be First Sergeants, these seminars serve to give them a more in-depth look at what the duties of a First Sergeant entail," said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Dathan Hayes, 633rd Medical Group First Sergeant. "This can serve to reinforce and enhance their aspirations or allow them to realize that being a First Sergeant may not line up with how they want to serve the Air Force."

During the seminar, U.S. Service members learned the importance of being a first sergeant through numerous activities.

"Besides the typical classroom lesson, we had guest speakers from different base agencies come talk to the students, such has a Commanders' Panel and a Command Chiefs' Panel," added said Chief Master Sgt. David Stubblefield, Air Combat Command First Sergeant.

As a first sergeant, Stubblefield wanted the aspiring first sergeants to learn the importance of the role they have all Airmen in the enlisted structure.

"All in all, you don't have to have a Diamond to help Airmen," concluded Stubblefield. "All supervisors should learn about the different helping agencies, talk to their and learn about their Airmen so they know when their Airmen need help, and then take care of them by connecting them to the right agency for their situation."

The next First Sergeant seminar is scheduled for September. For more information, contact your unit first sergeant.
