JBLE discusses today’s AF with CSAF

By Staff Sgt. Natasha Stannard 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Members of Joint Base Langley-Eustis and their families joined U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III for his second Google Hangout May 21, 2015.

The hangout was open for anyone to watch and gave total force enlisted Airmen and their family members from six military installations a chance to openly discuss today's Air Force with Welsh.

During the 90-minute live event, selected participants spoke directly to Welsh about professional development, leadership, potential changes in benefits, Air Force culture,  mission priorities, balancing Air Force life, the enlisted evaluation system and more.

For the five-members selected from JBLE, the discussion was an opportunity to learn more about Air Force goals and initiatives, and in turn help execute them.

"There are a lot of things going on in our Air Force and a lot of things at headquarters that are happening to make our force better," said Chief Master Sgt. Mark Hurst, 633rd Air Base Wing command chief. "Anytime we have an opportunity like this, as Airmen, we need to take it."

For Hurst, JBLE being selected was not only a benefit for the Airmen participating in the chat, but to all JBLE members and their families.

"I can keep this information to myself or I can share it and give the base more understanding, less frustration and maybe a clearer picture of the vision of where we are going, how we are getting there and the goals we have to accomplish in continuing to be an amazing force," said Hurst. "If we have the knowledge and the information, we have the power to go out and do good things with a better understanding of what we are doing as an Air Force. What better way to get all of this than directly from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force."
