Fort Eustis Homes Opens to Civilians

By Balfour Beatty Communities

Fort Eustis Family Housing on-post homes are now be available for rent by civilians through Balfour Beatty Communities.

A mixture of three and five-bedroom units in the Inchon and LeHavre neighborhoods, are currently available to new residents. However, active-duty service members still have first priority for all family housing.

Fort Eustis now joins the ranks of many other military installations around the country that are already leasing family homes to military retirees and other resident classes. Balfour Beatty Communities manages all on-post family housing at Fort Eustis through a public-private partnership with the Army. Since there has been a decrease in occupancy for certain home styles and neighborhoods, these homes are now available to civilian renters.

"If homes are not being filled by active-duty personnel, we offer opportunities for other eligible renters who pass our screening process to live in one of these homes," said Christina Sonnier, Community Manager for Balfour Beatty Communities.  "Occupied homes make for a more vibrant community and also ensure adequate funding is in place to sustain ongoing renovations to the property, as well as new homes and amenities for our residents."

Interested applicants must qualify through the Community Management office, successfully complete a comprehensive credit and criminal and background checks.  These background checks include checks by installation security forces. Monthly rental rates for non-active duty are based on market rental rates and the specific home style.

Sonnier stated that there are many advantages of living on-post.

Most utilities are included in monthly rental and there are no hook-up fees. Curbside trash pick-up, recycle pick-up and water-usage charges are also included in the monthly rent. Additionally, all upkeep and regular yard and home maintenance is provided, including 24-hour emergency services. Security for on-post housing is provided by military police. Other amenities include community centers with fitness facilities, playgrounds, outdoor pavilions, sports courts, splash parks and dog parks.
"The ability to live on post at Fort Eustis is a truly unique opportunity," Sonnier said. "We look forward to welcoming new residents to our community."

Families interested in moving onto Fort Eustis can ask for information from the Balfour Beatty Communities leasing office at 757-369-8335 or online at www.forteustishomes.com. Applicants from the newly eligible category must pass Fort Eustis background checks and meet credit and income requirements.
