JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
U.S. Army Soldiers within 12 to 24 months of separation or retirement will no longer go through the Army Career and Alumni Program, as it has been replaced by Soldier for Life. Career counselors at the Soldier-For-Life Transition Center at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, are available and ready to assist with Soldiers' transitioning needs.
The JBLE counselors help guide Soldiers through meeting the now congressionally- mandated Transition Program and Career Readiness Standards. More importantly, they listen, advocate and motivate.
Counselors work one-on-one to map out individual transition plans, point out job leads, certification programs, education programs or technical schools. They will help with resumes, provide interviewing techniques, salary negotiation tips or advice on applying for a federal job and when they can't help, they find a subject matter expert that can.
"The first step toward your new path in life is to come on over to the center and complete PreSeparation Counseling and register for the five-day GPS Transition workshop which includes a 3-day Department of Labor job training and Veterans Benefits workshop," said Sherman Watkins, JBLE Contract Installation Manager. "The key is the Service members mindset, it's not a one week course . . . it's a 12 to 24 month transition. Those that take advantage of the workshops and resources available as they go through the transition process stand the best chance of positioning themselves for optimal success."
The JBLE Transition Services Manager, Reba Gordon concurs; stating the motto for every transitioning Service member is come early and come often.
