Army divers train for the unexpected, mitigate risks
U.S. Army safety divers with the 569th Engineer Dive Detachment stand-by as Sgt. Gordon Yeaple, a salvage diver and noncommissioned officer in charge with the 569th Engineer Dive Det., dives into the James River at Fort Eustis, Va., March 18, 2016. As part of a yearly training, Yeaple simulated being unconscious due to breathing in too much carbon monoxide, so that the safety swimmer could complete a rescue task to upgrade his proficiency as a diver.
