JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Despite inclement weather, the Joint Base Langley-Eustis and Hampton Roads, Virginia, communities hosted the AirPower over Hampton Roads Open House at Langley Air Force Base, April 22-24.
The open house kicked off the year-long celebration for Langley's 100-year anniversary.
The event gave community members the opportunity to watch the Air Combat Command F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team and F-35 Lightning II as they showcased the aircrafts' capabilities. In addition to the Raptors, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team, U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, Geico Skytypers, Disabled American Veterans Flight Team and RedLine Airshows were among the performers. Local and national vendors also attended the event to show their support for the military.
Among the open house attendees who were there to celebrate air power was Virginia Governor Terry McAullife.
"Today is a great day, we have the 100th birthday of Langley Air Force Base," said McAullife, in his remarks to the crowd. "This is the greatest base in the entire world, other bases can't compare, and the folks here since World War I have been out defending this great nation."
