Saint Leo University will hold its Virginia commencement ceremony at Hampton University Convocation Center in Hampton, Virginia, May 21, 2016, which is also Armed Forces Day in the U.S.
For more than 40 years, Saint Leo has been committed to educating military men and women, veterans, ROTC and their families. At many education centers and offices located in Virginia, and throughout the world, Saint Leo is proud to educate those who serve.
U.S. Navy Capt. Frank E. Hughlett, commander, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, will be the speaker at the university's Virginia commencement ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m.
A native of Sterling, Virginia, Hughlett is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He was commissioned in November 1986 through Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. In 2009, he earned a master's degree in joint campaign planning and strategy from the National Defense University, Joint Advanced Warfighting School.
Hughlett completed Major Shore Command at Maritime Civil Affairs and Security Training Command in August 2012 and subsequently served as chief of staff for Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Pacific. Prior to assuming command of MCAST, he served as the chief of plans and policy, Stability Division, Headquarters, International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan.
Approximately 725 students will receive degrees, and student Renae M. Wallace will speak during the ceremony. Wallace is graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, with an accounting specialization. She plans to pursue a master's degree in accounting.
