JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. - –
The Langley Chapter Air Force Association will host a 5K run at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, June 18, 2016 to benefit AFA's Wounded Airman Program.
The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. under the 1st Fighter Wing archway. Runners will then follow the running trail, past some of the oldest houses on the installation and across the flight line where they will be able to view the F-22 Raptors.
"Most races on the base are on the running trail so this run is going to be a lot of fun because runners will get a closer look at the F-22s as they run across the flight line," said Maura Rust, 633rd Security Forces Squadron command secretary. "It's a family fun event so there's also going to be a kids' run and a play area for children."
According to Tyler Johnson, Langley AFA president, all of the proceeds from the run will support the Wounded Airman Fund.
"AFA operates our Wounded Airman Program in partnership with the Air Force Wounded Warrior program to provide much needed support to our wounded Airmen," said Johnson. "If you give $100 to the WAP, that $100 will go toward the support we give our wounded Airmen."
Runners can register for the event at www.langleyafa.org and pay $20 through Friday, June 17, or register and pay $25 at the event. There is no charge for the kids' one-mile fun run.
"If you're injured or you can't run for any reason, you're more than welcome to come out to walk or cheer on runners," said Rust. "We want to do everything we can to support Airmen who have been wounded and this is a great way to take care of them. One team, one fight."
