Helpful moving tips for smooth move

By Langley Personal Property 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron

The permanent change of station season is here, and to help the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community with challenges members might incur while transitioning to a new duty location the 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron Personal Property Processing office provided smooth move tips.

1. When possible, schedule move dates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Monday and Friday are the busiest days to move.

2. Avoid the last week of any month as tensions, delays and cancelations can increase due to the sheer volume of end-of-the-month moves.

3. Ensure all documents and orders provided to the Joint Personal Property Shipping office are legible.

4. Begin securing move dates immediately after you receive PCS orders in hand. Delays will limit the JPPS office's ability to accommodate service members' preferred dates.

5. Provide the JPPS office counselor's alternate move-out dates that are at least two weeks out from the original dates.

6. Remain aware that due to overall carrier capacity issues, the JPPS office may need to utilize origin storage. If this is the case, it could delay or add time to your delivery at destination.

7. If pressed for time, seek alternate modes or sources of transportation including a "Personally Procured Move," formerly known as a Do-It-Yourself Move.

8. Avoid making major decisions or commitments until move dates are confirmed with the Transportation Service Provider or carrier.
