JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Skies over Joint Base Langley-Eustis roared with excitement this weekend as thousands of spectators gathered for the Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show, a celebration of airpower, precision flying, and community spirit.
The two-day event featured a full lineup of military and civilian aerial performances, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the 1st Fighter Wing’s F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team. Crowds also enjoyed performances by the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, the U.S. Navy Rhino Demonstration team, and a variety of vintage and modern aircraft showcasing the evolution of airpower and superiority.
“This airshow is about bringing our community together and inspiring the next generation of Airmen,” said Col. Matthew Altman, JBLE installation commander. “The overwhelming support we saw from the Hampton Roads community reminds us how deeply connected we are to those we serve alongside every day.”
Throughout the weekend, visitors explored dozens of static aircraft displays, interactive STEM exhibits, and family activities designed to engage guests of all ages. Food trucks, merchandise booths, and shaded seating areas made the flight line welcoming for families, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts alike.
Highlight performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, flying their iconic red, white and blue F-16 Fighting Falcons, and the 1st Fighter Wing’s F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, showcasing the world’s premier fifth-generation fighter, thrilled spectators and underscored the role of JBLE as our nation’s premier power projection platform. Both teams drew loud cheers and applause as they executed precision maneuvers across the clear blue skies.
The success of the aerial demonstrations, and the overall event was made possible through close cooperation across base organizations, particularly the strong partnership between the 1st Fighter Wing and the 633rd Air Base Wing.
“The partnership between the 1st Fighter Wing and the 633rd Air Base Wing was critical to making this airshow possible,” said Col. Brandon Tellez, 1st Fighter Wing commander. “From operations to logistics and everything in between, our Airmen came together as one team to deliver an unforgettable experience for the community and demonstrate just of fraction of our lethal combat capability.”
Bringing the air show to life was the result of months of preparation and coordination across base agencies and community partners. Security forces, logistics teams, emergency responders, and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
“An event of this magnitude takes a total team effort,” said Lt. Col. Tieu Myers, Airshow Director. “The dedication and collaboration across every unit on base and with our community partners, truly made this event a success.”
For many, the airshow served as both a thrilling spectacle and a powerful reminder of the dedication of America’s service members.
“This weekend was more than just an airshow; it was a celebration of innovation, heritage, and the incredible bond between this installation and our neighbors,” Altman said. “We’re grateful for everyone who came out to support us.”
As the final jet thundered past the crowd in a rousing farewell, families lingered on the flight line, already looking forward to the next opportunity to come together under the open skies of Hampton Roads.
Remembering Rob Holland:
On April 24th, we lost a legendary pilot and dear friend to the world of aviation, Rob Holland. This is an immense tragedy for the entire JBLE family and flying community. His absence was felt by visitors and performers alike, but the hope of inspiring future pilots, innovators and service members through future air shows carries on. May Rob’s memory be a source of strength, inspiration, and comfort for all. He will truly be missed.
