Norwegian Foot March, Builds Ready Minds and Bodies

By Staff Sgt. Dana Tourtellotte 633d ABW PA

The “Norwegian Foot March” took place at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Virginia, Mar. 7, 2025. During the NFM service members performed an 18.6-mile trek while carrying a 25-pound rucksack; participants qualifying times varied based on age and sex. U.S. service members, and a Norwegian military representative gathered for a pre-brief before the start of the March. For the NFM, a representative of the Norwegian Armed Forces must be present in accordance with the tradition of the event. The ruck promoted relationship building with North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies and cultivated mentally and physically ready forces. On the march there were numerous replenishment stations equipped with food, first aid, and drinks along the route ensuring the well-being of participants. U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Bennett Pennington, a Rifleman with Bravo Company Headquarters, was the first to complete the NFM. His finishing time was 3 hours and 32 minutes.
