JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Virginia –
Service members at Joint Base Langley-Eustis took a proactive step toward financial stability by attending the installation’s Financial Readiness Summit, Feb. 25, 2025. The event aimed to equip Airmen and Soldiers with essential tools for building and maintaining financial readiness.
The summit brought together financial experts, military leaders, and service members to discuss strategies for managing personal finances, reducing debt, and planning for future financial success. With rising economic challenges and the unique financial demands of military life, the event served as a vital resource for those looking to take control of their financial future.
Col. Matthew Altman, JBLE installation commander, emphasized the importance of financial readiness in overall mission success.
“Financial readiness is operational readiness,” said Altman. “When Airmen and Soldiers are financially stable, they can focus on their mission without the added stress of financial burdens. Our goal is to provide them with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed financial decisions, both now and in the future.”
The summit featured briefings from financial experts on topics such as budgeting, credit management, savings strategies, home buying, and the Thrift Savings Plan. Representatives from legal services, veterans’ affairs and other military support organizations provided guidance tailored to the specific financial needs of the military community.
"Financial readiness is a vital element of overall mission readiness," said Jessica Biddix, community readiness consultant. "By helping service members achieve financial security, we enhance both their personal well-being and the strength of the force. When service members are financially secure, they can remain focused on their duties without the distraction of financial stress."
Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, participate in hands-on workshops, and network with financial counselors who offer continued support beyond the summit. Many left the event feeling more confident about managing their finances.
“This summit really opened my eyes to some things I wasn’t thinking about, like retirement planning and the impact of my spending habits,” said Airmen Donnell Ramsey, a participant from the 633 ABW. “I now have a clearer plan for my financial future and know where to go for help when I need it.”
Leadership from JBLE remain committed to providing resources and education to help service members achieve financial readiness. Events like the Financial Readiness Summit underscore the importance of financial health and ensure that Airmen and Soldiers are prepared for both their military missions and their financial futures.
