Sponsoring A Guest? Understand Trusted Traveler

By Tech. Sgt. Corey J. Sokoloski 633d Air Base Wing Security Forces Squadron

The warm weather and travel season are quickly approaching.  This means our family, friends and loved ones will be making the trip to visit our home at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.

Sponsoring a guest is easy, as the Trusted Traveler program is in place during the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., to streamline the visitation process and eliminate the need to acquire a visitor’s pass from our Visitor Control Center.

However, we all have the responsibility of upholding one of most sacred core values, integrity first, by following the guidelines of the program.

According to the 633d Air Base Wing’s Integrated Defense Plan, the Trusted Traveler program is a privilege on behalf of the Wing Commander and may be revoked at the discretion of a member’s respective Commander, should a member violate the stipulations as set forth.

Complying with the policy is easy.  Any member can escort personnel on the installation if they possess the appropriate credentials, such as but not limited to:

“DoD military personnel, DoD civilians, military retirees, adult dependents 18-years-old or older of military/military retiree personnel and personnel possessing a DD Form 2765 have inherent escort authority based on credential validity, issuance procedures, prior honorable service, or dependency status.”

Any of the above are authorized to sponsor guests, so long as they are not a foreign national; there is a separate process in place for a visit of that nature.

Sponsoring a foreign national will require a stop by our Visitor Control Center or a call at 757-764-7770.

Be sure to maintain positive control of your guest and ensure they are respectful of the culture at JBLE, as you are responsible for all their actions while they are on base.

We would like to prevent noncompliant guests, wandering the base, from finding themselves in the custody of a Defender or worse, barred from the installation for trespassing.

Let’s all do our part in keeping our base safe and secure.  We want everyone to enjoy their time at JBLE, all while maintaining security and compliance.

Lastly, if you have questions about the Trusted Traveler program, please do not hesitate to contact the 633d Security Forces Squadron at 757-764-7766.
