LANGLEY AFB, VA. –
The Langley Officers' Spouses' Club kicks off its annual scholarship drive with a benefit golf tournament at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Eaglewood Golf Course.
The LOSC is hoping for a large turnout from the base to support this tournament, and in turn, support their scholarship fund.
Last year the LOSC gave seven scholarships ranging from $100 to $2,000 that benefited the base, and military families. Each year, the LOSC offers scholarships to military family members, including graduating high school seniors and spouses of military members. All dependent children and spouses (except spouses of LOSC members) are eligible for these scholarships, funded through events like the golf tournament.
Jen Cropper, LOSC president explained, "The LOSC has a long-standing tradition of being a social and a charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for our base and our community."
The LOSC has several fund raisers each year. With lots of hard work from club volunteers and generous donations from individuals and businesses, they are able to provide these scholarships. However, it takes the base community's participation to have successful events - the community helps the LOSC help the community.
The LOSC invites golfers and those who just wish to support the scholarship fund to enjoy a great day of golf and a chance to win valuable prizes, while making it possible for military family members to achieve their educational goals.
All ID card holders are eligible to play in this event, with men, women, teams or individuals welcome to participate.
The $45 entry fee includes greens fees, a cart, snack lunch, range balls with which to practice and a "Burger Burn" after the tournament. Many door prizes have been donated by local businesses and prizes for the first- through third-place teams as well as other prizes. But mostly, your entry fee lets you enjoy golf with friends while supporting a good cause.
Mrs. Cropper said LOSC fund-raising events allow the organization to make many cash donations throughout the year to enrich the lives of all military families and the local community. She sees the LOSC continuing a tradition to help military families further their education.
"Our fund-raising activities enable us to award scholarships to graduating high school seniors and military spouses. We proudly carry on what those before us started," Mrs. Cropper said.
Registration for the golf tournament is at Eaglewood Golf Course and will be open until the day of the tournament. For details about the tournament, call Joan Rickert at 868-0636 or visit www.langleyosc.org and click on the link to golf tournament.
