LANGLEY AFB, VA. –
More than 100 people showed up to participate in the Langley Officers' Spouses' Club golf tournament fundraiser Sept. 22, raising $3,600 for scholarships.
The LOSC surpassed its goal of raising $2,500.
"It was a successful, successful event," said Joan Rickert, LOSC vice president. "It was a perfect day with excellent turnout."
The LOSC held a similar tournament in 2002, raising $1,000. The turnout at this year's tournament surprised them.
"We wanted to raise more than that this year, at least $2,500," Ms. Rickert said. "We had great participation."
The money raised from the golf tournament will help send military dependents to college.
"Every year the LOSC gives scholarships to military family members, dependents and high school graduates," Ms. Rickert said. "Last year we gave $10,000. I'm pretty sure we're going to increase that this year."
