Langley reduces operations due to potential flooding

By 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Langley Air Force Base will begin reducing operations to minimal essential personnel from 5 a.m. Nov. 22 to 5 a.m. Nov. 23 due to the expected flooding associated with the incoming storm front.

The approaching storm poses a threat to Langley because of high winds and the potential for flooding. Langley's flight line is only 11 feet above sea level.

As always, the safety of our people is paramount, which is why only mission-essential personnel should report for work on Wednesday. Other preparations for the storm are underway as well, including sandbagging around buildings with a history of flooding and waterproofing computers and electrical equipment.

The Langley Base Exchange will close tomorrow at noon, the Service Station will close at 5 p.m., and the Shoppette will close at 7 p.m. The Commissary will be open during normal operating hours.

Base employees and family members may call 764-LAFB (5232) or go to http://www.langley.af.mil/ for updates on Langley's situation.
