WARNING: Construction sites present dangers

By 1st Civil Engineer Squadron

During the past few months, contractors have noted a number of people entering construction sites on foot or in privately owned vehicles.

Although some may think it's convenient to cut through construction sites, these areas can be dangerous for those who aren't familiar with this type of environment. Moving equipment, excavated trenches, falling debris and even paint overspray can have minor to deadly consequences. Safety should always be a priority.

Many people may not realize contractors take on liabilities during such projects, including keeping traffic, existing utilities and building access operating during projects. An unexpected liability is incurred when people enter construction sites, which can result in additional costs to the government.

Saving time for convenience's sake isn't worth an injury or worse. People should pre-plan routes to avoid construction sites and observe from a safe distance. For more information on construction projects, call the 1st Civil Engineer Squadron at 764-2660.
