LANGLEY AFB, Va. –
The 1st Fighter Wing Tax Center will assist military members and their families beginning Jan. 29 through April 16 Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Located at 62 Walnut Avenue, building 247, in the Langley Community Center, the center offers federal tax return preparation and electronic filing, state tax return preparation, counseling on tax issues and various federal and state tax forms.
People filing either form 1040A or 1040 must call 764-7054 or 7055 for an appointment. Appointments will be available from 8 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Individuals filing form 1040EZ may use walk-in hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Federal and state tax forms may be picked up at any time.
People who schedule appointments at the tax center need to bring the following items to file their tax returns:
-Social Security cards
-A copy of last year's tax return
-All W-2s received for the 2006 tax year Taxes will not be filed with the December 2006 Leave and Earning Statement.
-All 1098s and 1099s received for the 2006 tax year
-Proof of family member social security numbers (social security cards)
-Child care provider's tax identification number or social security number and the total amount paid in child care for 2006
-People who file electronically must bring a voided check or a bank statement with routing number and account information
-A power of attorney for those filing a joint return where one party is unable to make the appointment. The power of attorney allows people to sign the tax returns on their spouse's behalf
The tax center is limited to basic individual income tax assistance. The staff cannot provide advice or assistance to anyone owning rental property, day traders or a private business with the exception of licensed Langley Family Child Care providers.
The 1st FW Tax Team still needs volunteers to serve as administrative support for the tax center. Active-duty members interested in volunteering must provide an appointment letter with name, rank, office symbol and duty phone as soon as possible, along with supervisor, first sergeant or commander approval.
