AF award recognizes 1st AMXS

By Master Sgt. Anthony Davis 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The 1st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was recently named the 2006 Air Force Maintenance Effectiveness Award winner in the on-equipment aircraft maintenance (large) category.

The award, announced Feb. 22, recognized the unit's accomplishments during the past year. Those accomplishments included standing up two aircraft maintenance units to support the F-22A, pioneering an Air National Guard integration, running the largest F-15 AMU in Air Force history, and transferring 28 F-15s to Pacific Air Forces.

"This award says those efforts are recognized and appreciated by senior leadership," said Lt. Col. Dane West, 1st AMXS commander. "There wasn't a patent on any one particular accomplishment; you can't quantify those laborious efforts with a metric. The men and women of 1st AMXS have gained recognition for being the best at what they do."

This is the first time 1st AMXS received Air Force-level recognition, which reflects the squadron's mission accomplishments, effective use of resources, innovative management and quality of life for its personnel.

"This award says a lot about each squadron member, as well as the efforts by members of the 1st Maintenance Operations, Equipment Maintenance and Component Maintenance Squadrons and 192nd Air National Guard," said Chief Master Sgt. Larry Martin, 1st AMXS maintenance chief. "It wouldn't have been possible without the tremendous accomplishments of every maintainer in the 1st Maintenance Group."

"I can truly say that each maintainer accomplished their portion of the mission as a professional," Chief Martin added. "This award recognizes them for all the efforts they put in, day in and day out, to support the 1st Fighter Wing mission."

The squadron is responsible for the worldwide rapid deployment and employment of F-15C air superiority fighter aircraft and F-22A air dominance fighter aircraft in support of various unified command war plans.
