LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
At midnight Sept. 27, BLB Family Housing assumed ownership of all family housing on Barksdale, Langley and Bolling Air Force Bases, bringing the privatization deals to a close.
At the closing, Langley housing was renamed "The Landings at Langley" and throughout the next seven years, will be completely transformed into world-class communities, said Mr. Bill Johnson, 1st Civil Engineer Squadron housing privatization project manager.
Transformation of Langley housing will include many upgrades, such as 30 different floor plans, 1,040 new, larger Bethel Manor housing units, attached single and two-car garages on all housing units, ample storage room and larger bedrooms. Main base housing will undergo a "whole house" renovation, where the housing will maintain its historic value while providing modern housing standards for military members and their families.
Bethel Manor will also gain a housing welcome center, a state-of-the art community center with exercise and activity rooms, additional playgrounds, walking trails and two new swimming pools.
Kay Taswell, assistant manager for The Landings at Langley here, said the new floor plans will bring an overall better quality of life for Airmen and their families.
"They're wonderful; I can't wait to see the final outcome," she said.
Although Mr. Johnson said the transition should be relatively painless, there are several changes residents need to be aware of. These changes can be found in
The Landings at Langley welcome letter, which was sent to residents Sept. 28.
