Volunteers needed for Operation Warmheart

By Staff Sgt. April Wickes 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Volunteers are needed to assist with Operation Warmheart, Langley's annual Thanksgiving community outreach program which is scheduled for Nov. 20.

Operation Warmheart provides Thanksgiving food baskets for Langley families in need.  Specifically, this program targets single Airmen and those families with members who are deployed.

The Langley First Sergeants' Association, which hosts this program, sponsored a 5K run Nov. 2, to raise money to purchase items for the baskets.  Food donations were  also collected at the Langley Commissary.

"Words can't express the gratitude we as first sergeants have felt about the people here at Langley who have made both financial and food donations to our 2007 campaign,"  said Master Sgt. Dennis Westbrooks first sergeant for the 30th Intelligence Squadron.

Last year more than 500 Thanksgiving baskets were delivered to Langley families. This year's goal is 600 baskets.

People  who can help assemble baskets should meet across the street from the library in the parking lot adjacent to the Commissary Nov. 20 from 8 to 11 a.m. Food donations can be made at the Langley Commissary throughout the weekend and donation boxes are located by the front entrance.
