LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The 1st Fighter Wing Tax Team needs volunteers to serve as volunteer income tax assistance representatives.
The 1st Fighter Wing Tax Team provides free tax preparation services. The 2006-2007 tax program was a tremendous success, helping save the Langley community more than $600,000 in tax preparation and filing fees.
"We're soliciting volunteer support to make the 2007-2008-tax season even better," said Ms. Charley Cooper, installation tax coordinator. "The success of this year's tax season depends on the number and quality of volunteers in the tax center."
People who would like to volunteer must meet the following requirements:
· Volunteers should possess math aptitude or tax experience (preferably)
· Volunteers should be eager and willing to help others during the tax filing season
· Volunteers must commit to a total of 40 hours during the course of the tax season
· Volunteers should be available to work a minimum of two consecutive weeks or one day a week for ten weeks
· Volunteers should be available to attend a training course scheduled for Jan. 7-11 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Langley Community Center.
Additionally, office volunteers are needed to assist with the general administration of the tax center. In particular, volunteers are needed to answer telephones, schedule appointments and greet customers. Attendance at the VITA training course is not required for administrative volunteers. If you know of any spouses or retirees who would like to participate in this worthwhile program, please pass this information to them. Ideally, we are looking for individuals who are available on a full-time basis throughout the tax season, but all help is appreciated.
People who are interested in volunteering must get approval from their supervisor, first sergeant or unit commander. An appointment letter with your name, rank, office symbol, and duty phone should be provided to the 1st FW Legal Office.
