LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Langley Tax Center will open its doors to military members and their families from Jan. 28 to April 15, Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Located in the Langley Community Center at 62 Walnut Ave., building 247, the tax center offers preparation and electronic filing of federal tax returns, preparation of state tax returns, advice and counseling on tax issues and the distribution of various federal and state tax forms.
Appointments will be available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Individuals filing forms 1040A or 1040 must call 764-7054 or 764-7055 for an appointment. Individuals filing form 1040EZ may use walk-in hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Federal and state tax forms may be picked up at any time.
People must bring the following documents to tax appointments:
· Social Security cards
· A copy of the 2006 tax return
· All W-2s received for the 2007 tax year (taxes will not be filed with the December 2007 Leave and Earnings Statement
· All 1098s and 1099s received for the 2007 tax year
· Proof of dependent social security numbers (social security cards)
· Child care provider's tax identification number or social security number and the total amount paid in child care for the year 2007
· People who file electronically will need a voided check or statement from the bank with routing number and account information for electronic deposit
· People who file a joint return where one party is unable to attend the appointment will need a power of attorney to sign for the absent party on his or her behalf
The tax center is limited to basic individual income tax assistance. The staff cannot provide advice or assistance to anyone owning rental property, day traders or a private business with the exception of Langley licensed family child care providers.
The 1st Fighter Wing Tax Team is still in need of volunteers to serve as administrative support for the tax center. Active-duty military volunteers must provide an appointment letter with name, rank, office symbol and duty phone and must have supervisor, first sergeant or commander's permission. Retirees or military spouses can also volunteer by calling the tax center.
