LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
National Children's Dental Health Month, which is held in February each year, originated in 1941 from a two-city event promoting children's dental health. It has grown into a nationwide program today in which children's oral health messages reach millions of people through dental offices, medical facilities, schools, military bases and through community groups.
As part of the National Children's Dental Health Month celebration, the 1st Dental Squadron is scheduled to conduct classroom presentations at several schools in the local community as well as on base at the library, child development center, and Shelbank Youth Center. Dental personnel will also be at the Langley Main Exchange Feb. 16 promoting children's dental health and responding to questions the public may have.
Also, in order to increase everyone's dental IQ, especially in regard to children's dental health, there will be a series of articles throughout February on such topics as "Oral Hygiene in Children," "Snacking Habits - Tips and Facts," and "The Importance of Mouthguards" to protect you and your children's teeth. Please check with your private or civilian dentist to see what programs and special promotions may be going on in association with National Children's Dental Health Month.
Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
