LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Team Langley 2008 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, "Commitment to Caring," kicks off March 10 and runs through May 3.
The annual campaign, which runs in conjunction with the Air Force-wide AFAF campaign, gives members an opportunity to contribute to one or more of four different charities, which support Air Force active duty, Reserve, Guard and retirees.
These charities, which include the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Villages Indigent Widows' Fund, Air Force Indigent Widows' Fund and The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, provide Airmen with an opportunity to take care of their own.
" This campaign is a very important one," said Capt. Melanie Spaulding, Team Langley AFAF program manager. "We can positively touch many lives with every dollar we contribute."
Beginning March 10, AFAF unit project officers will contact Airmen for their chance to contribute. Members can contribute to AFAF through cash donation, check, money order or direct deposit. Each charity receives 100 percent of designated contributions and all donations are tax deductible.
"For this campaign to succeed, we need every one of you," Captain Spaulding said. "If you're asking yourself 'How can I help?' the answer is quite simple: we need your contributions."
The Air Force Aid Society is the official charity of the Air Force. It was chartered to assist in relieving financial emergencies faced by active-duty members and their families and in some cases, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve members and retirees.
The Air Force Village Indigent Widows Fund supports widows of retired Air Force officers who demonstrate need for care and security, while the Air Force Enlisted Village Indigent Widows Fund provides the same type of care for widows of enlisted Air Force members.
The LeMay Foundation provides financial aid to spouses of Air Force officers and enlisted members, enabling them to continue living in their own homes and communities and ensures they will not struggle to meet daily living needs.
"Many of you are long-term contributors and every year, you make it possible to help our Air Force family overcome hardship," the program manager said. "For those of you who have never contributed, this is your golden opportunity; somewhere in the world, a fellow Airman needs your help."
