Country singer kicks off celebration

By Airman 1st Class Chase Skylar DeMayo 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

If you aren't familiar with songs like "Wave on Wave," "Feels just like it should," "Dixie Lullaby" or "Way Back Texas," you soon will be.

Country music star Pat Green will kick off AirPower over Hampton Roads, Langley's annual air show, with a performance here June 20.

The San Antonio native started his professional touring career with the aid of legendary singer Willie Nelson in 1998, and since then, Mr. Green has recorded more than seven albums, with his last four albums hitting the country music top 100 chart. His last 13 singles have all reached the "Top Country" charts with four of them landing a spot on the United States Hot 100 chart.

Mr. Green's music career started at Texas Tech University, where he played gigs at small bars and clubs until 1995, when he borrowed money from his parents to record his first set of tracks. The rest was and still is becoming history.

According to CMT.com, Mr. Green said, "Before that (recording music), I only sang in the shower. I could mimic other people's voices. It took me a long time to find my own voice, but once I did, I became very comfortable with it."

On behalf of Brig. Gen. Mark Barrett, 1st Fighter Wing commander, the public is invited to attend the free three-day event, which will feature static aircraft displays, children's activities, food and a number of aerial demonstrations. Gates open at 5 p.m. June 20, and 9 a.m. June 22 and 23.
