LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
AirPower over Hampton Roads kicks off June 20 through 22 and will feature static displays of historic warbirds, performances by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows, the F-22A Raptor and three-time Grammy nominee country music singer Pat Green.
The air show, which is free and open to the public, will offer a variety of aircraft displays and demonstrations, including the F-15E Eagle, B-2 Spirit, C-17 Globemaster, P-51, F-4, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and the V-22 Osprey.
"People can get an up-close-and-personal look at what goes into flying and maintaining these aircraft... it's a chance to get people informed involved and excited about what goes into AirPower over Hampton Roads," said Lt. Col. Brady Merrill, the director of AirPower over Hampton Roads and 1st Fighter Wing chief of plans.
Last year, more than 165,000 people attended Langley's air show and this year, Ms. Dale Drumright, AirPower over Hampton Roads coordinator, expects an even bigger turnout.
Although all air shows are unique, Ms. Drumright said Langley's air show is garnering more interest than most because this is the first time AirPower over Hampton Roads will host the Red Arrows.
"I have been an air show coordinator since 1991," Ms. Drumright said. "This is by far one of the most exciting, considering it's the first time I will have the pleasure of working with and watching Great Britain's Aerial Demonstration Team, the Red Arrows."
The team is scheduled to perform here June 21 and 22 following the Great Britain and U.S. national anthems, which will be performed by Rob Reider and Bria Kelly.
"I'd like to encourage everybody to come out; whether they've been to an air show or not, this is the year to see the Red Arrows," Colonel Merrill said. "It's the first time they've performed in the United States since 1993."
After performing at Langley, the Red Arrows will continue their tour to New York and Rhode Island.
In addition to the historic performance, AirPower over Hampton Roads will offer something for all ages, making it a great family event, according to Ms. Drumright.
Langley's air show will also offer children's entertainment, educational exhibits and recruiters from all services. People can also buy souvenirs, including hats, patches and pins from Langley units.
For those with an appetite, the air show will offer an all day buffet for attendees. The cost is $18 for adults and $8 for children June 20 from 5 to 9 p.m. and $44 for adults and $18 for children June 21 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buffet tickets can be purchased
online or at
Paradocks East Coast Grille locations.
Gates open at 5 p.m. June 20, and from 5 to 7 p.m., there will be aircraft in the air and on display. Pat Green takes the stage at 7 p.m.
"Following the concert, aircraft with pyrotechnic capabilities replace the music for an after-dark aerial display second to none," Ms. Drumright said. "The grand finale is an incredible display of fireworks."
June 21 and 22, gates will open at 9 a.m. and military and civilian demonstrations will take place throughout the day until gates close at 5 p.m.
The air show coordinator recommends people arrive early to avoid heavy traffic and also to see all Langley's show has to offer.
