LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Department of Defense contract for the Government Travel Charge Card currently held by Bank of America expires Nov. 29 and the new GTCC will be with Citibank, beginning Nov. 30.
The new GTCC is being sent out the first week of August and should be received by early September. Members who do not receive their card by that time should contact their GTCC monitor to make sure their information is correct in the Eagles automated system. Cards sent to the wrong address will not be forwarded to the card member.
"Not everyone is guaranteed a GTC [card]," said 1st L t. Antoine Munfakh, the 1st Fighter Wing financial service officer. "For instance, if someone has had bad credit in the past they may not receive a card."
But every unit has a GTCC monitor, who is responsible for watching the travel expenses on the card, and maintaining the Eagle automated system to make sure the members address are correct, said Lieutenant Munfakh.
The GTCC is intended for official Air Force business such as, deployment, temporary duty, and permanent change of station. Travelers must keep receipts for items such as charges for excess baggage, rental vehicles, hotels, and anything in excess of $75, according to Lieutenant Munfakh.
"The bill goes to the member and they are responsible to make sure it's paid," said Lieutenant Munfakh. "If someone doesn't pay the bill it will go on that member's credit [report]."
Members who are deploying or deployed should contact the GTCC monitor by e-mail or phone to ensure they receive their new card, according to Lieutenant Munfakh.
"Overall, this process should be seamless," said Lieutenant Munfakh.
Members need to know there are penalties for inappropriate use of the GTCC ranging from a letter of counseling to a court martial hearing, said Capt. Matthew Andrade, 1st Fighter Wing chief of military justice.
If a member accidently uses the GTCC they need to notify their commander immediately to explain what happened and have it resolved, said Capt. Andrade.
The option for split disbursement and cash withdrawals will still be available with the new GTCC.
