What's a day in the life like ... while deployed? Very busy...we in-process everyone assigned to our base. The Air Expeditionary Force rotational changeover is our busiest time.
What will you remember about your deployment 20 years from now? So far I will remember how I was greeted by the AEF rotation 3/4 PERSCO superintendent prior to exiting the passenger bus at my base. It kind of reminded me of basic training.
What's the most useful item you packed? Alarm clock
When did you realize you "weren't in Kansas anymore;" aka your "Dorothy" moment? Once we landed in the Central Command Area of Responsibility.
What has been the highlight of your tour? Being able to talk to my family on a consistent basis.
What's the best part of the deployment? Knowing that we are pleasing everyone here at our base through outstanding PERSCO support.
The worst part? Not being able to see your family.
What do you do during down time? Recreational items such as playing pool, poker tourneys and basketball.
What is the first thing you will do when you return? Basically relax and enjoy spending time with my family.
What insight/experience will you take away from your time over there? How proud I am to serve my country.
What do you miss the most? All the variety of restaurants stateside you can select to eat from.
How is your job that you are doing now different from the job back stateside? As an inspector general member, I evaluate the job I'm currently doing down range.
Have you tried the local cuisine? No
What do you think about what you hear on the news from what is going on stateside?
I think of them the same as if I was still stateside.
Do you have plans for any extra money that you might be making from this deployment? Spending a nice two weeks in Vegas with my wife.
