Aerospace Ground Equipment Flight

By Tech. Sgt. April Wickes 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

"There is no Air Power without Ground Power."

"Without our support equipment and test equipment, the things that we maintain, they wouldn't be able to keep the aircraft flying," said Master Sgt. Kenneth Myers, Aerospace Ground Equipment flight chief.

The flight delivers, maintains and inspects equipment that directly supports the F-15s and F-22s assigned here. They also have sections that support AMMO and transient alert. They maintain more than 640 pieces of equipment valued at more than $12 million.

When the squadron sends someone on a temporary duty assignment, they have to make sure the person can drive and dispatch equipment as well as be able to work on it.

"We work on gas turbine engines, diesel engines and air compressors, as well as hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment," said Sergeant Myers. "There are so many things that we do, that makes us the jack of all trade."

The flight not only delivers, maintains and inspects equipment; they are involved in many base events.

"Whether it entails lighting, electrical or maintenance stand support, we're pretty much involved with everything," said Master Sergeant Myers. "Most people think all we do is service, deliver, and pick up equipment, but there is much more to it than that."

Currently AGE helps the school outside of Bethel Manor by providing lighting support for their after- school sporting events. They have provided this service for over four years.

During the Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Team Inspection, the flight received a 100 percent pass rate on personnel evaluations and received seven honorable mentions.
