LRS wins the Daedalian Award

By Tech. Sgt. April Wickes 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The 1st Logistics Readiness Squadron won the 2008 Air Combat Command Maj. Gen. Warren R. Carter Logistics Effectiveness Award, also known as the Daedalian Award.

"It was something we were looking forward to and very happy to receive," said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher Jackson, 1st LRS superintendent.

The Order of the Daedalian Foundation established the annual award in 1962, honoring the unit that achieves the best supply effectiveness record in the Air Force in support of mission aircraft and/or weapons.

Winning an award from an operational organization like the Order of the Daedalian is the same as the operators, the end customers, recognizing the squadron as the best of the best, said Lt. Col. Kevin Gaudette, 1st LRS commander.

One of the squadron's biggest accomplishments for 2008 was earning an excellent rating on the Operational Readiness Inspection.

During the Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Team inspection, 1st LRS had the fewest write ups in four years for Air Combat Command, according to Colonel Gaudette.

"The men and women of the 1st LRS, bar none, come to work every day and do everything they need to do to make sure we're the best," he said.

The Daedalian Award culminates the entire year's efforts.

"Winning the Daedalian Award is a year-long process, but more so it's a culture of doing right and trying to be the best you can be and providing outstanding customer service," said Chief Jackson.

When you're recognized with an award of this magnitude at the end of the year it makes everyone feel that all the hard work was worth it, said Colonel Gaudette.
