Safety Center Commander BASH brief
LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Maj. Gen Fredrick F. Roggero, Air Force Chief of Safety (right), listens as Tom Olexa (left) and Jared Kwitowski (center), USDA wildlife biologists, explain the different species of birds that inhabit the airfield environment around Langley March 12. Mr. Olexa and Mr. Kwitowski showed General Roggero a red-tailed hawk and an American kestrel that had been caught and removed from the airfield. They discussed the types of live traps used to catch the birds as part of the Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard program. The USDA has 25 full-time biologists stationed at Air Force installations around the country as part of their wildlife services programs. (U.S. Air Force photo)
