AF Week ceremony honors Guard, Reserve employers

By Master Sgt. Carlos J. Claudio 192nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Employers of drill status Guardsmen of the 192nd Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, will be recognized during a ceremony to be presented by the Virginia Chapter of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve scheduled for April 21 at 2 p.m. at the Hamptons Golf Course.

Organized by the Virginia Army / Air National Guard Enlisted Association and Hampton Roads Air Force Week Committee, the presentation will occur after right after a golf tournament. ESGR awards given in the past have included the Above and Beyond Award and the Patriot Award.

The Above and Beyond Award is given in limited numbers by state and territory ESGR committees. It recognizes employers at the state and local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements for granting leave and providing support for military duty by their employees.

The Patriot Award is designed to recognize employers who support a strong National Guard and Reserve force by practicing leadership and personnel policies that support employee participation in the Guard and Reserve.

Started in 1972, the ESGR is a Department of Defense organization which honors individual companies that have made the return-to-work process easier for deployed men and women who serve part-time in the National Guard and Reserve.

The ESGR mission is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding employers, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflict through mediation.
