Sentinel Focus 09 improves intelligence support for warfighter

By Marge McGlinn 480th ISR Wing Public Affairs

Sentinel Focus 09 is scheduled for Aug. 2-6 and will influence the way the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing conducts its global ISR operations for years to come.

As the vision of Col. Dan Johnson, commander of the 480th ISR Wing commander, Sentinel Focus 09 is a week-long event that will observe Air Force Distributed Common Ground System operations that take place around the world and in every theater of operations.

"Sentinel Focus 09 will give us operational insight into Air Force DCGS enterprise best practices that need benchmarking and operational challenges that need addressing," said Colonel Johnson. "Once we gain this insight, we can formulate solutions that will allow us to further develop competencies vital to sustaining full-spectrum ISR capabilities for the warfighter and our nation."

The event will provide the wing an opportunity to take an internal look at processes and procedures and glean insight into ways to improve intelligence support to the warfighter.

Teams will observe Airmen conducting real-world operations for five days, with the goal of identifying best practices and areas for improvement.

There are eleven critical operational issues within Sentinel Focus 09, to include assessing the interfaces between Air Operation Centers and the Air Force DCGS enterprise.

Solutions developed as a result of these eleven assessments will ultimately allow the NAFs to present a more refined effects-based ISR capability to their warfighting partners, said Colonel Johnson.

480th ISR Wing units and ground sites are located worldwide. Stateside locations include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nevada, Utah and Virginia.
