LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Col. Cheryl Allen, Commander of the 560th Aircraft Sustainment Group at Warner-Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins AFB, passed the guidon to Lt. Col. Stephen MacLeod as he assumed inaugural command of Detachment 1, 578th Aircraft Sustainment Squadron on Aug. 25, 2009. The ceremony was held in The Ryan Center, which hosts the unit's personnel and mission systems.
Under Colonel MacLeod's leadership, the detachment will support modernization of the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System by operating and sustaining the Distributed Ground System-Experimental.
The AF DCGS, operated by the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing is the $1.7 billion ISR ground station architecture which delivers geospatial intelligence and multi-source intelligence products in support of combat mission planning and execution.
DGS-X will lessen risk to the 480 ISRW and associated Air National Guard DGS units by effectively testing new DCGS upgrades and capabilities in an operationally representative environment before they are fielded.
