FORWARD OPERATING BASE THUNDER, Afghanistan –
Staff Sgt. Allison Williams evaluates a team of 203rd Corps Afghan National Army medics as they provide combat care for a simulated injured soldier during the Inaugural ANA Combat Medic Challenge at Forward Operating Base Thunder, Afghanistan Oct. 12.
Forty-six select soldiers of the Afghan National Army sergeant vied for the best medic title in the competition that tested their physical fitness, marksmanship, combat lifesaver and medical evacuation assistance skills Oct. 10-14. The objective of the competition for the ANA medics was to hone combat lifesaver skills, build camaraderie, and inspire improvement through the spirit of competition.
Sergeant Williams is deployed from the 1st Medical Group at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and her hometown is Princeton, N.C. She also applied the makeup on the soldiers to make the simulated wounds appear as realistic as possible for the competition, and seeing the surprised looks on the medics' faces as they approached the "patients."
