Local businesses provide free holiday rooms to Airmen's families

By Airman Gul Crockett 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Council is once again coordinating the annual Holiday Rooms program. Through the generosity of Peninsula innkeepers, technical sergeants and below can reserve a free room for visiting family members. Here are the rules and the form to use:

The "Official" line on the program is:

1. Rooms are available for the "families" of active-duty E-6 and below.

2. Rooms are available for Dec. 24-26.

3. Rooms are assigned on a "first-come, first-served" basis and limited to one room per military member.

4. Rooms are for Service member families - not Service members

5. Military members must be assigned to a Peninsula military or Coast Guard installation.

6. The southside installations have their own program, and any military member who lives on the Peninsula and is assigned to a southside installation should be directed to their duty installation.

7. It is the responsibility of the Service member to call individual hotels for specific requirements - hotel check-in times, check-out times and deposit requirements vary.

8. Once the room list is released to local hotels, any changes must be handled directly with the assigned hotel.
