Rid homes of recyclable products, chemicals Nov 21

By Brenda Cook 1st Civil Engineer Squadron

Household Chemical Collection Day and Computer and Electronics Recycling Day is Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Hampton.

This collection program is for households only and is not extended to business offices, shops or retail services on Langley.

The Hampton Public Works Operations Complex staff is extending the hours for this day, expecting city residents to turn in several storm-related materials. The drop-off location is located at 419 N. Armistead Ave (near the corner of Armistead and Pembroke).

If you live on Langley AFB or in Bethel Manor, you can use this location to drop off your Household Chemicals and electronics at no cost. Even if you live in Poquoson, York County or Williamsburg/James City County, you can use this location to drop off your items.

This is the perfect opportunity to dispose of any household chemicals and electronics
destroyed in the storm.

Participants must bring some type of identification or charges will apply for drop-offs. Examples are a driver's license, military ID or an ID with a photo, and a utility bill with one's residential address.

Acceptable products include: household maintenance and cleaning, automotive, lawn and garden and miscellaneous products. Acceptable chemicals include: oil paints, latex paints, stains, wood sealers, thinners, solvents, adhesive, glue, gasoline and other fuels, batteries, waxes, brake fluid, oil and gasoline mixtures, insecticides, weed killers, pesticides, fertilizers, swimming pool chemicals, oven cleaners, drain cleaners, floor waxes, metal polishes, photo-finishing supplies, charcoal fluids and chemistry sets.

Unacceptable products include: business or medical waste, compressed gas cylinders,
shock sensitive materials, radioactive products, large quantities of unknown materials, ammunition, gun powder, asbestos containing materials, explosives, flares, propane cylinders or household trash.
