***Commanders may suspend all or part of a punishment for up to six months. If the member fails to meet a condition of the suspension, the commander can remove the suspension and impose the punishment. For example, a member is given a suspended reduction to Airman on Nov. 1. On Dec. 1, that same member fails to meet a condition of the suspension. The commander can impose the punishment that was suspended and the member is then reduced to Airman effective Nov. 1, the date of the original action. This action is called "vacating" the suspension.
