Medical group transitioning clinics to new wing of hospital

By Col. Eric Stone 633d Medical Group commander

It is with great pleasure that I announce the opening of the new USAF Langley Hospital addition - the first phase of our move into new building is expected to begin Jan. 15.

All NASA Clinic, Blue Clinic, Pediatric and Women's Health staff will be moving to this new addition during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

After the move all appointment for these clnics will be in the new clinic location on the first floor of the new wing. Patients may park in the new parking lots, which can be accessed from either Nealy Avenue or Sweeney Boulevard. The clinic entrances are located in the center of the new facility.

We will have staff available to assist you in finding your way to your appointment during our transition. I would suggest arriving early for your first appointment in the new building to allow time to look through the facility and find your clinic. The main phone number for our clinics, 225-7630, will remain the same during the transition; however, the extension numbers for the clinics may change later this month as the base installs an updated phone switch.

The hospital addition will provide the opportunity and space to better serve our patients. As one of the benefits of this facility, families will now be able to share the same primary care provider, re-establishing the full range of family medicine. Once we get settled in the new location, we will begin reassigning NASA and Blue Clinic patients "by family" in order to restore the "family" in family medicine. Patients affected will be notified by letter of their new provider. Pediatric Clinic enrollees will remain with their current provider and treated in the same general area as the rest of their family.

Bethel Clinic patients will not be affected by the move and will continue to see their providers at the Bethel Clinic. The laboratory, radiology and Urgent Care Center will also remain in their current locations. In coming weeks, our specialty and inpatient areas will move to their new locations, some right away and others will move to transitional space while the old wing is renovated. We will post information about the improvements in our healthcare facility and services in publications around the base and on our Web page.

Renovation of the old hospital wing and the main Dental Clinic will begin soon and continue for approximately two years. We anticipate that by the end of 2012, we will have a completely renovated and improved, state-of-the-art hospital in which to deliver the excellent care you have come to expect at Langley.

I sincerely appreciate the patience you have shown during the building of our addition and thank you in advance for your continued patience as we renovate the old portion of our existing buildings. I hope you are as excited about our new spaces and services as I am. We are here to serve your total healthcare needs and have been eagerly anticipating the new opportunities this new wing makes possible.

If you have any questions or need further information about the changes in our hospital facilities, call our information desk at 225-7630.
