633 CPTS outperforms the rest of the Air Force

By Senior Airman Sylvia Olson 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 633 Comptroller Squadron triumphed in 2009, earning four of 25 Air Force level Financial Management and Comptroller annual awards. Going down the long list of award winners, Langley Air Force Base comes up again and again.

The Air Force Financial Management Award Program board selected nominees and award recipients based upon awards' package bullets.

"Winning these awards lets folks know that hard work doesn't go unnoticed," said Chief Master Sgt. Jesse Stirling, ACC Functional Manager for financial management and comptroller. "Even the highest levels of leadership recognize their efforts. It reinforces we are the best, and outperformed the rest of the Air Force."

Chief Stirling believes the squadron's success stems from teamwork to overcome 2009 challenges.

"Outstanding achievements and mission impact," states the award package Lt. Col. Kerry Britt, 633 CPTS commander prepared. "In 2009, the 633 CPTS blazed a trail of success! They skillfully executed a $200 million program; Langley is number one at home and away."

The team enabled 8,000 sorties and 12,000 flying hours that ensured Air Force air dominance and combat capability. They supported 25 or more exercises, deployments and operations, and processed 1,400 Airmen at 47 locations. In addition, they built the first-ever "Top 10 Defense Travel System errors" tool, lending assistance to 9,000 travelers.

The list of accomplishments continues, "The 633 CPTS virtually eliminated interest penalty payments, paying only $73,000 for the year, an unbelievable accomplishment." They also built the $1.5 billion Langley and Ft. Eustis joint base funding and manpower requirement, a key piece of Base Realignment and Closure legislation.

"Langley has set the bar high," said Chief Stirling. "Our folks will continue to press forward; I've been through all the units, and see the day-to-day dedication our personnel give to Langley Airmen, and I'm very proud."

Winners will receive the Secretary of the Air Force Financial Management coin, a commemorative plaque and a letter of recognition at the American Society of Military Comptrollers National Professional Development Institute 2010 conference in Nashville, Tenn. June 2.
