Editor's Note: Commanders may suspend all or part of a punishment for up to six months. If the member fails to meet a condition of the suspension, the commander can remove the suspension and impose the punishment. For example, a member is given a suspended reduction to Airman on 1 January 2010. On 1 February 2010, that same member fails to meet a condition of the suspension. The commander can impose the punishment that was suspended and the member is then reduced to Airman effective 1 January 2010, the date of the original action. This action is called "vacating" the suspension.
