LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Daily life for most people is made up of many interacting parts. We have obligations to our families, our jobs, social engagements, appointments and various other commitments. Making all of these parts work together to avoid conflict and taking care of ourselves at the same time can often take a great deal of effort and planning. We balance and juggle to find the best way to make our lives work. Taking a step back and seeing the "whole" picture and how all these parts work together is an important part of keeping everything in balance.
Likewise, this idea can be applied to our health and well-being. Often we make the mistake of only thinking of our health when there is something wrong, when we are sick or injured. Considering the "whole" picture means realizing our health is not just about the physical condition of our bodies. Mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, as well as daily maintenance through exercise, diet and preventive care all function as interacting parts just as in our daily lives to keep us healthy and in balance. Accepting responsibility to plan and make all the parts work together without conflict is the basic idea behind whole person care.
The Family Health Clinic at Langley understands that there are many different components involved in keeping our military family well. The healthcare teams are dedicated to working with each individual and family to manage all medical needs to take care of that "whole" person that makes up each individual. And through this team collaboration, we hope that everyone will become active participants in working with the teams in healthcare management. After all, we as individuals are the authority on all of the parts that make up our "whole" person. Together, we can keep everything working without conflict.
Whether it is as simple as working to change a daily diet and developing an exercise plan or something more complex such as management of medications or dealing with psychological pain and stress, the Family Health Clinic will help put all the parts together to reach a balance. Healthcare for the whole person is one more positive step towards ensuring everyone receives exceptional care here at Langley.
